A hunting rifle that fits a smaller frame is hard to find off the rack, and that gap is what the Mini Rogue family from Fierce Firearms was built to close. These rifles serve hunters from the whitetail woods of the East to the open sage and mountain country of the West, where a light rifle earns its keep on every climb.

Fierce made the line for youth, women and shorter-framed shooters. Each model pairs a carbon fiber stock with a shorter length of pull and an adjustable comb or push-button cheek piece. The CT Mini Rogue XP comes in at about 6 lb, with a titanium dual-lug action and a C3 carbon barrel. Choose from 22, 25, 6mm and 6.5 Creedmoor up through 7mm-08 and 308, so a first rifle can grow with its owner.

This is the original Carbon Mini Rogue layout: stainless dual-lug action, 70-degree bolt lift, fluted bolt, an adjustable Bix'n Andy Dakota trigger and a hand-lapped match-grade barrel.

308 Winchester is the classic all-round hunting round: proven on deer, hogs and black bear, with factory ammunition available everywhere. In a rifle this light, 308 recoil is noticeable for a small shooter; a 6.5 Creedmoor or 7mm-08 is the gentler start.

This rifle has a 20 in barrel, 4+1 capacity, and weighs about 5.8 lb. Finish: Purple Carbon Fiber Camo.

Length of pull is the first thing to check. If the stock is too long, a young shooter leans back, the rifle sags and recoil lands in the wrong place. With the shorter stock and a comb set so the eye sits square behind the scope, the shooter can mount fast and see a full picture. Start with 6.5 Creedmoor or smaller, then move up once good habits are set.
